You cringe in disappointment as the waitress announces ‘last call!’ knowing the booze train is pulling in to the final station for the night. Well friends, no more!
The Vancouver City Council have announced that they are attempting to shed Vancouver’s ‘no fun, bedtime police’ image by extending liquor hours in restaurants.
The new bylaw that allows Vancouver restaurants to serve alcohol on weekdays until 1 am and on weekends until 2 am will go into effect in two weeks time. The change is expected to However, this may not be great news for every restaurant.
In 2003, the city created a bylaw for all new restaurant owners that required them to serve alcohol no later than midnight. Restaurants opened prior to this bylaw could have an last-call time of 2 am, which means some restos will have to cut back their liquor hours by a half hour on weekdays.
However, in the grand scheme of things the negative only affects 13 % of Vancouver restaurants. The other 87% are ready to liven things up for an extra hour.
So, get ready to drink and socialize a little later into the night from here on out as Vancouver attempts to dismember themselves from their ‘no fun’ city image.
