If you're looking for a panache of glittering electro, power pop and sultry rhythms, look no further than upcoming artist Jamie Jo.Jamie Jo is has been singing since she was 17. A Miami native, she was a South Beach club kid until she attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where she studied photography. Additionally, she majored in Art History at the University of Miami.
Her family is friends with a number of notable musicians, including the Bee Gees brother Barry Gibb. He heard Jo's first single, liked it so much that he wanted to sing on it. He produced the backing vocals and the result is "U Turn Me On," a sweet taste of Jo's scorching upcoming electro-pop album In Violet. "'U Turn Me On' is about that amazing dance partner you find," she states. "It’s about the chemistry."
In Violet carries heavy influences from artists such as Prince and Astrud Gilberto, whose cover of Frank Sinatra "Girl From Ipanema" was a huge inspiration for Jo. The tune "Boy You Got Me" is all about Astrud’s impact – but it’s also "about lust," Jamie Jo reveals, "and waking up on the beach next to that special person, looking into their eyes and enjoying them." When In Violet is released this fall, expect a 13-song serenade of sultry R&B, hip-hop and seismic waves of club beats with electro funk – all in the vein of Madonna, Goldfrapp and Kylie Minogue.

ClubZone – What’s your inspiration? What are you singing about?
Jamie Jo – I’m singing about a steamy moment on the dancefloor in that particular song. Also, a hot club scene. All-in-all, [on] my new album In Violet, which is coming out this fall, I am singing about romance and passion. Some of it is based on my experiences. Some of it is created for the listener.
How would you categorize your album?
It’s electro-pop and dance.
Who are your influences?
Sade, Astrid Gilberto, Madonna. Frank Sinatra is an influence.
Where do you want to take your musical career?
Hopefully, people will enjoy the album and I'll be able to make more music.
How about in terms of touring?
We have to wait until the single is released and the album comes out, and then hopefully there will be a tour.
What is one thing people might not actually get, or misinterpret about your musical output?
Not everything necessarily comes from my life. My album is created to put romance, sultriness or passion into the listeners' lives. I’m creating something so that people may just have an enjoyable experience with the music.
Do you go out to nightclubs?
Yes. I grew up in Miami. I grew-up going to nightclubs. I grew up going to Mynt, Chaos, Ballroom and Mansion.
How old are you?
I’m 24 years old.
Oh, you’re young.
Yeah.
Good timing. Just go with it. You have until you’re 30.
Exactly. And then you’re going to have to stop.
You don’t have to stop, you just have to figure shit out. Do you produce the music?
I have producers, such as Carmen Rizzo, who worked with Paul Oakenfold. I also work wtih Damon Elliott, who produced Destiny’s Child. I also work with Bobby Robinson, who's worked with Boyz II Men before. I have a lot of producers.
Excellent. What will your live act consist of?
My live act will consist of me singing, obviously.
Are you ballad-y? What are you doing to the audience? Are you popping them or do you swoon them?
I’m not just going to swoon them. I’m trying to do a little bit of both. Sade and Madonna are both my influences when it comes to what I’m doing, I guess – a cross between the two. I want to put joy in people’s lives. I want them to relax, put some passion into their lives, and some sex.
Do you have remixers?
Yes. There will be remixers. We’ve leaked out some of the songs and trying to choose the most appropriate people to remix them.
