I just thought of a good way to get the damn letter reference from my lazy Criminal Law/Litigation teacher.
For 6 months the guy kept saying he'll do it he'll do it.. and by god i'm going to get it out of him.
I sent him an e-mail mid July (after the marks came out so I knew he would not have to worry about school stuff any more). I want to send him another e-mail, but I want it to light a fire under his ass and get him to actually do the damn letter... I don't want to leave little loose ends till the last minute.
So my idea was... In the e-mail i'm going to say to him that I need his reference letter as I am applying to get into a legal program at SAIT for September and as part of my application process I am required/or it is helpful for me to include a letter of reference and that (basically implying that his reference will help me in the application process).
I'm trying to think of the best way to word this e-mail.
I was thinking something along the lines of this..

I was just wondering if you have had a chance to write the letter of reference for me.
I am currently in the process of applying to the Law Clerk Diploma at SAIT (a College in Calgary).
As a part of the application process it is suggested that I include a letter of reference, which will help with my acceptance into the college/program. I was hoping to include the letter you offered to write for me (which I also was hoping to use to apply for Legal Assistant jobs).
It is important that I send in my application ASAP in order to insure my acceptance into the college and program (before spaces fill up).
Please let me know if you are still willing to do this for me and if it would be possible for you to do this before the end of the month. It is very important to me and I would really appreciate it.

Is it believable?
Cuz it's a total lie.
I was just thinking of what I could say that would give him a sense of urgency and maybe get him to actually set aside oh... what...10 mins to actually do this for me (like he kept promising).

I seriously think you should offer to write it yourself, let him review / edit, then have him sign it. He may be a tool but he also may simply be too busy to put a decent letter together..
If you have a good relationship with him (no, not like that), he may say "Andrea, I trust you - write me something and I'll sign it".

I'd really rather him write it.
I don't doubt that he is busy... however i'm looking at it this way.
HE offered to do this for me. I was asking him a question one day after class and he said "If you would like, I can write a letter of reference for you, just remind me a before the semester is over and I will do it for you".
So I reminded him...3 weeks before it was over.. he said oh yes...I will have it to you by the last day of class. Never happened.
So when I had him for a class in my last semester I was like great... so I asked him about it again and he said oh yes don't worry I'll have it for you.. and again... the same thing happened.
Although he did say he always keeps his word.
I think he just fees like he has till the end of August as he knows i'm moving in Sept.
However I do not want to leave little things like this till the last minute. I want to get easy crap out of the way now so I can focus on the bigger things like packing and garage sales, getting rid of big ticket items, finding a home for my birds and making sure this is an easy transisition.
fack.
But seriously I think he's just lazy.
And I want this letter.
No matter how busy anyone is... I'm sure they can put aside 10-15 mins.

because I don't need to apply to the college or for the program.
I am automatically accepted in.
I'm taking my courses though the continuting education program (part-time) so all I need is to give them money.
I made up the situation (which I know is common for students applying to collge after highschool full time) thinking if I gave my need for this reference letter some importance and urgency that I would have a better chance at getting it sooner then later or even at all.

Update:
I sent my little e-mail lastweek on Monday.
I still hadn't heard anything by Thursday, so I sent another quick e-mail simply asking for him to reply and let me know that he has been getting my e-mails.
As of today I still haven't heard back.
I am thinking of doing 1 of 4 things.
#1) Sending him an e-mail from my work address (giving him the benefit of doubt and assuming that my e-mails have been going into his spam folder or he really hasn't been getting them)
#2) Not even bothering any more assuming it's a lost cause, not worth my time and he's let me down.
or #3) sending him a stern e-mail telling him how dissapointed I am in him and how I expected more from him, especially since he said he would keep his word.... etc.
or #4) give it some more time and then do either #1, #2 or #3?
suggestions?
