GRAMMY NOMINATED...

PAUL VAN DYK
Vandit, www.vonyc-sessions.com, Berlin (Germany)

As a Grammy nominated artist and internationally acclaimed DJ, Paul van Dyk has spent the better part of his career dominating the electronic music charts. Appearing at the pinnacle of every Top DJ list across the globe, he recently graced the No. 1 spot for two consecutive years, bringing his reign to a span of seven years in all. But of course his stellar reputation comes as no surprise to the legions of dance music aficionados lining up every night to hear his floor scorching sets. In 2007 Paul released his latest artist album "In Between” which has already been a massive global success with worldwide performances from Montreal to Moscow. Spawning numerous hits and featuring collaborations with artists such as the legendary David Byrne of the Talking Heads and Jessica Sutta of the Pussycat Dolls that have been burning up dance floors and rocking bedrooms all across the globe.

2008 sees the release of his latest DJ mix compilation in honour of legendary club night Cream at Anmesia Ibiza. Paul’s relationship with Cream and Ibiza spans more than 10 years and is highlighted by having compiled and mixed the 10th anniversary Cream Ibiza album. Reflecting his famous DJ sets at Amnesia, Cream’s spiritual home, this album is the real sound of the island over two CDs taking various genres of electronic music but always maintaining the Paul van Dyk vibe.

PvD, as he is known to his fans, is renowned as one of the world's hardest working artists, with sold-out tours that cross each continent, headline spots at every major festival, and a hugely successful recording career. With over 3 million albums sold worldwide, van Dyk travels around the world over 16 times each year to sold out performances internationally. 2007 alone has brought us PvD remixes of Depeche Mode's "Martyr" and Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around" and he continues to be one of the most in demand re-mixers on the planet.

At the 2008 International Dance Music Awards in Miami: PvD - Best Alternative / Rock Dance Track - Let Go , Best HiNRG / Euro Track - White Lies, Best Progressive House / Trance Track - Let Go.. In addition, PvD was voted "America's Favorite DJ" for 2004 and 2005 by BPM Magazine and was the big winner at the 2004 Dancestar Awards, taking home 3 awards: Best International DJ, Best Event and Best Music in a Commercial (Motorola). He also won the Mexican Oscar for his soundtrack in the film Zurdo in March 2004. Paul van Dyk was voted "Best Music Maker" by DJ Magazine, received the "Best International DJ Award" at the 1999 Music Awards in London, was named "Best International DJ" by Ministry of Sound Magazine, and Mixmag elected him as "Man of the Year". He also won DJ Magazine world number 1 DJ for consecutive years and his world domination shows no sign of slowing at all.

PvD received a Grammy nomination in 2005 for Best Dance/Electronic Album for his original album Reflections, marking the very first time NARAS recognized this category. His original productions from Reflections have been synced into major motion pictures such as Into the Blue, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, television's Entertainment Tonight and MTV's Cribs, and international ad campaigns for Motorola, HBO, Land Rover, Ski Vail and most recently for Jeep.

Aside from his musical activity, Paul van Dyk has always dedicated a significant part of his life to politics and social justice. Starting in his youth when he fled over the Berlin Wall to the West, Paul's children's charity in India's Mumbai, and his partnership scheme with the German Red Cross to help poor children in Berlin are just two examples of how this global superstar still stands, eyes open when looking at the world around him. In 2004, PvD was the only electronic artist involved in a nationwide tour with the Rock The Vote campaign, where he joined the likes of Bono, P Diddy, the Black Eyed Peas and George Clinton in campaigning for America's youth to sign up to vote in the presidential election. He most recently received Berlin's Medal of Honor (Landesverdienstorden) in recognition of his work with Ruckenwind, a charity organization he founded dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth in Berlin. He joins a distinguished list of arts and political establishment figures with this honor.

Born in Eisenhuettenstadt, East Germany, Paul van Dyk grew up in communist East Berlin. Because his community did not have a true club culture, Paul listened to the radio where he discovered a passion for music that extended far beyond the simple Techno music that flooded the airwaves. He wanted to create a different, more unique sound and with this as his mission, Paul set out to change the direction of dance music on a global scale. In the early 1990's Paul van Dyk was spinning regularly at various clubs in Berlin before releasing his first album 45 RPM in 1994. But it wasn't until the release of his second album Seven Ways, followed by the release of his hit single "For An Angel," that Paul was catapulted into the Top 100, earning praise and recognition across the globe. By the time Paul van Dyk released Out There & Back in 2000, it was clear that the Berlin-based musician had far more to offer than the signature club sets and remixes which had previously defined him as one of the most influential DJs and producers of all time. His first compilation mix CD Politics of Dancing was released in 2001, followed by Global in 2003 – a DVD which illustrates his own experiences traveling the world.

With his labels VANDIT Records and VANDIT Digital as well as his online radio station VONYCSessions.com Paul offers dance music lovers a combination of radio and a music download shop focused on the electronic dance scene. In the little time remaining between all the travel, Paul van Dyk resides in Berlin where he has his own radio show "Paul van Dyk's VONYC Sessions" which airs weekly on Satellite, FM and Web stations to a million listeners all around the globe!
