My hatred for the Lakers is exceeded only slightly by my distain for Utah, so go Lakers.. New Orleans - San Antonio is the best second round match-up. Oh, and don't be so quick to pre-ordain an LA / Boston finals.. New Orleans will have something to say about that.. In the East, I swear to God Detroit is going to put me to sleep. LeBron and my boy Boobie Gibson have the Star Power the network execs want if Boston doesn't wake up and start playing up to their capabilities. Read here first - New Orleans / Boston Finals with New Orleans giving the Gulf Coast a nice post-Katrina present.

Oh yeah! Even though the media would love the Lakers/Celtics match up, there are too many teams that could break up that party! Other than that last game, Boston did not look anywhere near as dominant as might have been expected. But I don't see the other Eastern teams really stopping them......well, maybe the Cavs, but they won't be a suprise team this year. And New Orleans beat the Spurs handily in their first game, which I loved, since I'm not a big Spurs fan. Although any of the remaining teams in the West could make a run.

We were talking down here that the fact that the Hawks won TWO games was possibly the biggest upset in NBA history. ....It was a TOTAL choke that the Celtics let this thing go to seven games. lol

I can imagine the frenzy that whipped around Atanta when they won a couple of games. I bet it was like the Falcons making the Playoff.

Too bad that frenzy didn't extend to the actual arena for Game 3 in Atlanta, which didn't even sell out. I love Atlanta but that is one seriously fickle sports town. Win and they'll eventually support you - lose or just be average and you'll play in front of thousands of empty seats.

Actually, the only real frenzy was INSIDE Phillips Arena. The rest of the city was still in cautious disbelieif. lol

On of the guys in our department gave his Game 3 tickets away because of something goofy. I think he also had tickets to Seinfeld or something. lol Yeah, this IS an interesting sports town. Coming from Cleveland were we will jump in front of a train for our Browns or Cavs, it's been quite the adjustment for me.

Southern cities are pretty fickle with professional sports. That the NHL even has a team in Atlanta speaks to a fatal flaw in their marketing department. As you've seen, Southern cities will jump in front of that same train for college sports, except for the extra large cities, i.e.: Miami, Atlanta, Houston. I'll bet Georgia Tech hasn't sold out a football game since Notre Dame visited back when. I'll bet Florida hasn't NOT sold out a game since before either of us were born.

Tech MAY have sold out one of the Tech vs. UGA games. .....largely because of the UGA fans. lol But yup! I clearly see the validity of your statements. I find it pretty odd how people identify you by the college sports team that you support down here. "OH, don't pay her no mind, she's a USC fan -- bless her heart." lol And by USC, I mean South Carolina. hahahahaha

Yea, and it gets PERSONAL as in people won't attend funerals or weddings because of college ties. It almost gets silly: Florida vs Florida St. Alabama vs. Auburn. Miami vs. Parole Board Texas vs. Texas eATMe LSU vs. civilized behavior

I blame the Braves for that. I mean they get in the Playoffs for 14 straight season and only have 1 championship title to show for it. It gets to the point that fans don't show up to playoff games until the National League Championship Series and even then the seats are empty. Now the Hawks, Thrashers, and Falcons have to suffer for it.

I think some of it is because loyalty is reserved for college athletics. NFL teams need a regional draw in the South but if you're asking thousands of upper-middle class people in.. say.. Athens to spend $$$ to see UGA / Tennessee on Saturday, then turn around and pay $$$ to see Atlanta / Kansas City on Sunday, they're simply not going to do it. The Carolina Panthers are a tough sell - they're lucky Tar Heel football is in the crapper right now. Competing with Clemson & USC for $$$ is tough enough.
