Plastic Acid (a Rock Orchestra) - Presented by 99.3 The Fox, Molson Canadian and the Georgia Straight!
There are very few orchestras in the world that set up in a bar, encourage loud, enthusiastic cheering and then blow your mind with both modern rock music and a few orchestral classics thrown in.
Plastic Acid (a Rock Orchestra), the devilish offspring of Musical Director, Bryan Deans, is performing one night only at the Plaza Club in Vancouver, June 26th, 2008.
This is the third season for the orchestra, which has performed hugely successful shows in both May and December, 2006. This upcoming show at the Plaza Club is expected to be a hot ticket for fans of the Rock Orchestra, who have been eagerly awaiting this performance for well over a year.
Founded by Bryan in 2006, Plastic Acid’s mission was to be a project that would cross over between the orchestra community and a younger, rock and roll audience. Not an unusual concept for Bryan who has been embodying this premise throughout his musical career. The idea is to allow concert goers a full orchestra experience in a club atmosphere, combine it with both original scores and covers and allow for a wider, more diverse audience into a symphonic world and cut-down barriers between musical genres.
Plastic Acid encompasses a 40 plus piece orchestra of some of the finest musicians in the city, performing classical, rearranged rock covers and original scored music. The scheduled program consists of Beethoven, arrangements of Pink Floyd, Soundgarden, and original Canadian compositions from both acclaimed composer Jason Nett who is composer-in-residence for the Vancouver Island Symphony as well as up-and-coming composer Martin Reisle.
Opening the show will be Plastic Acid (the Rock Band) which is the original four-piece behind the Rock Orchestra including Bryan, his sister, Marissa Deans, Brad Pyke and Nick Urquhart. Plastic Acid (the Rock Band) will be performing original songs from their upcoming EP, which will be released at the show on June 26th.
Bryan Deans is a cellist, conductor, composer, and teacher who received his degree in music from the University of Victoria in 2005. Bryan is currently assistant conductor of the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, Music Director at St. John's Private School, conductor of the Elgar Strings and performs with Westcoast Symphony. In his spare time he is glider pilot, a pastime in which he also acts as an instructor at a flying school in Invermere.
