KID CAPRI Historically in hip hop, the DJ has always been an essential element with respect to the culture, the sound and the style. No single person fits this mold better than Kid Capri aka The World's Greatest DJ. From the Bronx to Hollywood to Japan, Kid Capri is the single most renowned DJ in the history of Hip-Hop music.
Born David Anthony Love in the Bronx, New York, from the very beginning, Kid became a student of his craft. Immersed in the burgeoning hip-hop culture of 70s uptown NYC, Capri began seriously developing his skills as a DJ at the tender age of eight years old playing his first club gig when he was just 12 years old. He was already an accomplished turntablist by his teens, later spinning records at the famed nightclub Studio 54 and touring the world.
His talents began on the turntable, and that ultimately gained him his initial status as a Hip-Hop phenomenon. However, Kid is a multi-faceted talent, in that he uses his craft to create new trends in music that shatter the limitations that are often placed on Hip-Hop artists. From his innovative style of hip hop from today blended with the funk, soul, disco and pop hits of the past, to his second-to-none knowledge for choosing just the right crowd-pleasing sound, to his unparalleled mixtapes, Kid exemplifies the spirit of the entrepreneurial-minded musician.
The Bronx-born DJ first gained national recognition and helped put a face to the DJ as the man behind the wheels of steel for Russell Simmons and HBO's hit show Def Comedy Jam from 1992 to 1997. Before Def Comedy Jam, no other DJ had performed live as an integral part of a television show. Not to mention he was immortalized in the classic Notorious B.I.G song Juicy.
Although his DJ experience is vast, Capri is comfortable not only behind the decks but also behind the mixing board. Producing songs for industry heavyweights, such as Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Common, Quincy Jones and Jermaine Dupri.
Kid has toured extensively playing the world's most prestigious venues and performed with multi-platinum artists such as P. Diddy, L.L. Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Foxy Brown, Timbaland, Nas, Lil Kim, Mase, Jay-Z, Usher, R-Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Dru Hill, Genuwine, Aaliyah, Michelle Branch, Rakim, Mya, Liz Phair, Kid Rock, Wu Tang Clan, Grand Master Flash, De La Soul and Wyclef Jean.
He's been featured in GQ magazine, appeared in feature films, hosts his own weekly television program on the RHN cable network and performed at the NBA All Star weekend, The Superbowl, MTV, BET, Source and VH1 awards. Kid has also participated in national campaigns for Nike, Sprite, Alize and has his own line of Diadora footwear.
He's been booked to play private parties for Donald Trump, Justin Timberlake and NSYNC, Martha Stewart, P. Diddy, Jay-Z, Eminem, Spike Lee, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, 50 Cent, Russell Simmons, Souljah Boy, Mike Tyson, Swizz Beatz, Rocsi and Terrence of BET's 106 and Park, Angie Martinez, Danity Kane, Nina Sky, Eve, Ludacris,Bishop Magic Don Juan, Damon Dash, Gary Payton, Ice T and his wife Coco, Lil Jon, Bow Wow, Evander Holyfield, Christina Milian, Keyshia Cole, TLC, Tyrese, Amerie, Magic Johnson, Run DMC, Allen Iverson, Flavour Flav and Lebron James.
Now, 31 years since he first touched a turntable, Kid has far exceeded the expectations of his peers, critics and fans. His love for and careful nurturing of his immense talents have enabled him to represent the music industry in general, and Hip-Hop music in particular with class, individuality and an intensity that is unmatched in the music profession.
"I'm a total crowd hyping entertainer. That means doing it 110% every time I hit the stage. I want the people out of their seats, feeling me, feeling the music. That's the only way I do it."
