A party like no other, Vancouver's 2nd Annual Sunsplash In The Park features some of reggae's top musicians and a slew of good vibes in the majestic setting of Deer Lake Park. Featuring Michael Franti & Spearhead plus many more September 3rd, Sunsplash In The Park is guaranteed to be a spectacular music event!
In a rap world set predominately on a limited range of topics to cover, politically and socially charged hip-hop is a breath of pure, fresh air. For the past decade, Spearhead and Michael Franti have been the antiseptic to a plaque-filled gold-toothed hip-hop mouth, expelling righteous truths and music with extremely thoughtful, meticulous details. Everyone Deserves Music continues with the tradition, but takes the sound of Spearhead into more of a disco-funk territory at times. This doesn't displace Franti's lyrics by any means, but gives him an extremely fresh perspective to stretch out and experiment with his delivery. Not so much a punch to the stomach like their previous releases, Franti and Spearhead almost made a deliberate attempt to stray from the typical hip-hop beats and go for something a bit more organic and acoustic than their previous efforts - and the experiments more than pay off. It's honest, compelling, emotional, and soulful.
Mention the name Israel Vibration in reggae music circles and watch the warmth of recognition and appreciation of anyone who has seen or heard this very special group of singers. The positive vibrations emanating from the music of Israel Vibration have been spellbinding audiences, critics and DJs for over two decades. This group of singers casts a harmonious musical spell, weaving traditional roots reggae with a mesmerizing sound and deeply spiritual message.
Something can be said about a band that sticks to its roots. It's almost as if that band is taking the listener back in time, showing its upbringing - painting a picture through words and sounds. Mofro has that ability. From the first note it's pretty clear these boys spent time on an old wooden porch in Northern Florida's Blackwater swamp, eating blackberry cobbler while playing their unique brand of "southern-fried swamp funk."
