Halloween 2008 @ Geisha House
Tickets Only $30 in Advance! ($25 tix sold out) - Only a few left.
Geisha House is as slick and shiny as a toy from Tokyo. The honeycomb wall behind the bar at the entrance holds flat-screen TVs blasting anime, Japanese game shows and movies. Past that, the round dining room has a backlit streetscape mural lining one side, silk panels on the other, and a towering red column of stacked fireplaces in the middle. (Smokers can steal away to the second-floor patio, which has a retractable roof and separate bar.) Diners feign ignorance of the celebrity at the next table, but don't mind ogling the beautiful waitstaff in sailor-inspired getups. This isn't high-concept dining, but there is a good selection of creative small-plate dishes, sushi and sake, all served family-style—each item comes to the table whenever it's ready. A smattering of favorites: white soy-paper hand roll with lobster, rock shrimp tempura, the heaven roll (chopped toro, tuna, spicy tuna and cucumber), and the juicy kobe beef flat-iron steak. And yes, there are actually geishas walking around. We're not sure exactly what they do, but we think they do it only by request.—Lesley Balla
