MMA Liddell vs Evans Viewing Party
Thoughts on opponent, Rashad Evans? I'm excited to have this Rashad fight back on - I’m going to put pressure on him and put him down, because, unfortunately everyone has to have their first loss. It's been a white since I fought on the East coast, so I'm looking forward to going out there and giving this knockout to Atlanta.
When and why did you start training for fighting? Liddell was inspired to take up martial arts at 12 years old after watching demos after "Kung Fu Theater”. Chuck started in koei-kan karate-do at age 12, wrestling at age 14 and then kickboxing after that.
What ranks and titles have you held? Former UFC World Light Heavyweight champion. Chuck has a kickboxing record of 20 and 2 and has held the USMTA North American Heavyweight title and the IKF National Heavyweight title. IFC Light Heavyweight champion. Purple belt in jiu-jitsu under John Lewis.
Do you have any heroes? As far as influences go, in fighting, probably John Hackleman for my striking and John Lewis for getting me going in MMA.
What is your favorite technique? Right leg whip kick.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? I just want to keep fighting and keep winning.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Chuck wrestled for California Polytechnic State University and graduated from there with a degree in accounting.
What was your job before you started fighting? Chuck’s parents used to say to him, "You have a college degree. Why don't you get a real job?!" Early on Chuck used to work as a bartender and a bouncer.
Thoughts on opponent, Chuck Liddell? I think he’s a legend. No one has dominated a weight class for as long as he did, and when he went on that seven fight win streak, just knocking people out, that was very impressive and you can never take that away from a fighter. I think he solidified himself in the sport by doing that. But I’ve always said that I wanted to be the best and that I wanted to leave my mark in this sport. The only way you can do that is by facing the best. I’m not a fighter who wants to fill himself with false hope that I’m something that I’m not. I think I’m the best, so I’m gonna go out there, fight the best, and test myself.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started to train in 2003 after I graduated from college. I love fighting so much and I figured why take the chance of fighting in the streets when I can get paid to fight in the Octagon. Even though the street fights are a lot of fun, I put it behind me and started to train with a true purpose.
Accomplishments in amateur competition? Junior College National Champion for Niagara Community College. All-American wrestler.
Accomplishments in pro competition? TUF 2 heavyweight winner.
Ranks in any martial arts styles: None
Favorite grappling technique: Kimura
Favorite Striking technique: Left hook
Do you have any heroes? My mother is my hero because she is such a strong person. I have never even seen her cry.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? The UFC is the top, and a great organization. I have been a big fan since my adolescent years when I use to take karate. I can remember like it was yesterday my best friend and I watching one of the events. We said one day we will be fighting in the UFC. So what is like to fight in the UFC? It’s a dream come true.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Michigan State University, Psychology 2003.
What was your job before you started fighting? I worked at a hospital in Lansing doing security. Next to this job it was my favorite job. You learn a lot about life working in a hospital, the lessons I learned in the hospital you can't learn many places.
