Starting September 12th, 2008 and continuing every Second Friday of each month, come celebrate the diversity of the Bay Area with music, art, and video from around the globe with Outernational Science, a new monthly event that springboards off the successes of two extraordinary San Francisco parties: WORLDLY at 1015 Folsom, and 1002 NIGHTS at Temple.
Outernational Science will bring together both live traditional and future forward electronic sounds, with a firm root in riddims and melodies from the Subcontinent, the Arab world and the Western world.
Resident dj Cheb i Sabbah has been a practitioner of worldly sounds for decades and has been playing to massive audiences around the globe: (http://www.mondomix.com).
Cheb i Sabbah as been a focal point in popularizing many outernational sounds over the years including Bhangra, Asian, Arabic and African Electronica. This will be his only regular monthly event starting September 12th, 2008!
Resident DJ Janaka Selekta has a long history at Club Six. where his monthly event Dhamaal, ran for five years, winning the Guardian’s ‘Best of the Bay’ two years in a row for “best nightclub” and “best electronic act,” while also receiving audience choice for “best DJ.” Forward two years and a solo album later, Janaka Selekta joins forces with Cheb i Sabbah to showcase two floors of worldly music for all adventurers!
The September 12th show will feature two uniquely outernational live performances: The mesmerizing Riffat Sultana & Party interpreting Sufi, Qawwali, Bollywood and Bhangra songs. Nader Deaik’s CD release party for his debut album, Sahran. Nader Deaik’s band will perform their album live which will feature songs that are a blend of Middle Eastern, Spanish, Reggae, pop and other International rhythms that are unique lively and catchy!
This is the only club event in San Francisco that will feature a live Sufi music stage with singers Riffat Sultana & Party and Sukhawat Ali Khan as residents. The October 10th show will feature Ecstatic Sufi Qawwali group Fanna-Fi-Allah.
