C.I.A. Concerts Presents THE CAT EMPIRE
Wednesday NOVEMBER 18
Which band has played live to more people this decade
than any other Australian band?
THE CAT EMPIRE.
And determined to retain that title, the guys are pulling together their ever-entertaining troupe to return to North America, with the announcement of 17 shows for November.
THE CAT EMPIRE, who had been on a seemingly never-ending international tour, spent 2008 closer to home. It was a well deserved break after the previous year of touring which saw them tick off some major career milestones; performing on massive USA entertainment shows Letterman and Leno, playing Glastonbury Festival, Bonnaroo in the USA, and Summersonic Japan, releasing yet another multiplatinum album in Australia and wracking up another 184 live shows in the year.
There aren’t many bands in the world who could lay claim to 700 shows in a 7 year career. But Melbourne group The Cat Empire, won’t stay at the 700 milestone for long, playing their 750th show while in North American in November...thus clawing their way to the title of the Australian band to have played live to the greatest number of people this decade.
Famous for the energy of their live shows, The Cat Empire have sold out their two July ’09 Shepherds Bush Empire London performances, over 5000 tickets, 6 weeks ahead of the bands arrival into Europe. The band anticipates the North American tour might be even bigger.
“By November it will have been almost 2 years since we last visited the USA and Canada” said Empire front man Felix Riebl. “Judging by the number of emails we get, our North American fans haven’t forgotten about us, so we are confident they will all come out for the show’s”.
All shows for the run are expected to sell out early.
But it’s not just about wracking up shows for The Cat Empire. The band spent much of 2008 digging through their personal archives to unearth the best live takes and footage to deliver to their fans, who have been dying to get their hands on live content since the band’s early days. The result is the 22-track double album LIVE ON EARTH which the band will release to the North American market for the first time in 2009.
Along with a new album release, The Cat Empire will return to the USA and Canadian audiences with The Empire Horns in the entourage, and a whole host of favourite songs; new and old.
