Steve Nash Foundation presents Showdown in Downtown
Players confirmed for star studded Vancouver event and AfterParty at Pop Opera
Vancouver, BC — Two-time NBA MVP, Steve Nash, confirmed today the participation of celebrated basketball and soccer players for the latest installment of the Steve Nash Foundation’s Showdown series -- the Showdown in Downtown, in Vancouver. Baron Davis from the LA Clippers, and this summer’s celebrated first round draft pick, Hasheem Thabeet, are confirmed to play alongside Nash.
Following the success of his Showdown in Chinatown in New York City in June, the Showdown in Downtown promises a high-energy, exciting 8-a-side soccer match between teams of NBA and professional soccer players, including select Vancouver Whitecaps FC Players and the Whitecaps Residency.
The Showdown in Downtown kicks off on September 19
th, 2009, in David Lam Park in Yaletown. The free community event will support the work of the Steve Nash Foundation,
www.stevenash.org. Exhilarating entertainment is planned throughout the day with a blowout AfterParty at Pop Opera, hosted by Donnelly Nightclubs and the Donnelly Fund to follow that evening.
“We feel fortunate to work with the Steve Nash Foundation on the first Showdown event to be held in Vancouver,” says Reid Ogdon, Director of Operations for Donnelly Hospitality Management. “We look forward to throwing the AfterParty at our newest club venue Pop Opera. With a good turnout and successful auction, the event will dedicate all proceeds to Steve’s Foundation.”
The AfterParty will be infused with excitement, with a silent and live auction and Showdown stars and Vancouver celebrities in attendance. Tickets for this exclusive event are $100 and can be purchased via
www.stevenash.org/showdown. Purchases are eligible for a tax receipt. Proceeds from the Showdown AfterParty will be dedicated to the Steve Nash Foundation’s BC Grants platform, funding child-focused direct service organizations throughout the province. The Showdown AfterParty takes place Saturday, September 19
th, from 8pm – 11pm at Pop Opera (686 West Hastings @ Granville).
“This will be a great end to the Showdown weekend,” said Steve Nash. “The Donnelly guys have really gone out of their way to help my Foundation help kids locally, and I’m excited to show all of the players another fun time in Vancouver.”
