:: ABOUT THE ARTISTS ::

Yesterday’s cool never goes out of style. From the primal brew of early American rock n roll, to Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound, the Velvet Undergound, New York’s No Wave, and on through to the Jesus and Mary Chain, The Raveonettes have spent the last seven years re-coordinating this eminently tasteful set of references into something all theirs.

2003’s The Chain Gang of Love was so good that sunglasses-after-dark types behaved like it was the first time we’d ever heard so much reverb and feedback colliding in the psychocandy store. Equally, “That Great Love Sound” wasn’t just one of the best singles of the year; it was one of the best singles of any year, from 1965 onwards, so note-perfect was its balance of great pop, sexual politics, and caustic scream-and-echo chamber sonics.

Danish duo Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo (along with their various collaborators) fumbled slightly with 2005’s Pretty in Black, but last year’s Lust, Lust, Lust was an unequivocal return to scorched, ugly-pretty form. The band releases In and Out of Control in October 09 and early reports suggest the boss grandslam of Lust, Lust, Lust was just a prelude.
