Whether it was his critically acclaimed debut on the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, or his rise to number 23 in the definitive DJ Mag Top 100 Poll, there wasn’t much that didn’t go right for Gareth Emery in 2008, a year that saw him become increasingly established as one of the most innovative, unique, and exciting figures in modern dance music. With his numerous world-class productions topping charts everywhere, and his explosive DJ sets continuing to pack out clubs across the globe, you could be forgiven for thinking he’s a long-established dance music old hand. Well he’s not: he’s 28, and as it happens, he’s only just getting started. Writing and playing music is fundamental to Gareth Emery. His first gigs were at the age of 4, when despite never having lessons, he turned out to be so handy on the piano that his teachers insisted on him taking over the duties in school assembly. At 15, he found himself neglecting classical music training to sneak out to play guitar in a local indie band so ahead of their years that they found themselves headlining Southampton’s music pubs despite all being underage. And at 22, whilst on holiday in France, fiddling with a £500 laptop and wondering what he was going to do with his recent politics degree, he wrote his first electronic classic: the seminal ‘Mistral’. Plenty more were to come.

Since then, the passing years have been pretty good to this young Brit. His relentless touring schedule now sees him banking around 250,000 air miles every year, unequivocally demolishing dancefloors at the world’s finest clubs and festivals. You’ll find him at global superclubs like Home in Sydney, Zouk in Singapore, The Guverment in Toronto and Amnesia in Ibiza. You’ll find him at festivals like Holland’s legendary 30,000 strong Trance Energy and Belgium’s Tomorrowland. And you’ll also find him at the likes of Godskitchen and The Ministry of Sound in his native UK. In short, his unique, distinctive style is one that’s got people talking, with events in over 25 countries a year a testament to his exploding worldwide popularity.

Today, in the Emery studio, it’s all about innovation, setting benchmarks, and challenging perceptions. Constantly escaping categorisation, his productions, (which are composed, produced, and engineered entirely by him), span the worlds of trance, progressive, electro, techno, and a few other places. Languid, spacey grooves, juddering basslines, killer melodies, and hooks that take your breath away mean that it’s a given that Armin, Tiesto, Oakenfold, and Judge Jules have all been fully paid-up members of the Emery fan club for years, while both Ferry Corsten and Paul van Dyk have tipped him as a future star.

Constantly ahead of the game, Gareth was one of the first DJs to embrace podcasting when he launched The Gareth Emery Podcast in early 2006. The antithesis of long drawn-out DJ mixes, the show soon became the essential download for switched on, savvy dance music fans, with each short but sweet episode providing a mouth-watering expose of the fortnight’s best music. Its success hasn’t gone unnoticed by the industry either, being nominated for ‘Best Podcast’ at the Miami IMDA awards every year since the category was introduced.

With a list of achievements already far surpassing most DJs ten years his senior, Gareth Emery could easily sit back and be content with his lot, but you get the feeling that won’t be happening. His 2009 plans encompass a staggering amount of new projects, including his debut artist album: a long-awaited opus full of completely new material, and Garuda, his new record label and events brand he’s launching after previously heading the much-missed Five AM imprint.

Listening to him speak about Garuda tells you all you need to know about the Emery ethos: “I don’t care if we release two records a year or ten, as long as each one utterly blows me away”. And as long as the music passes his impossibly high barometer of quality, he isn’t even bothered if it sells, although given his flawless record of producing and signing tracks that top DJ and sales charts everywhere, you rather suspect they will. “It’s about nothing more than hunting down the most incredible, life-changing music out there, and trying to give as many people as possible across this planet a taste of it”. And that’s what it’s all about, right? See you down the front.

For close to 10 years now, The Thrillseekers have been at the forefront of the world's dance scene. From his first single 'Synaesthesia', through to the club anthems 'Dreaming of You', ‘NewLife’ and 'By Your Side', Steve Helstrip has been behind some of the most emotive, evocative electronic music, ever released. He’s worked with pioneers like Trevor Horn, shared co-production credits with Chicane and co-wrote on Ferry Corsten’s Grammy award winning ‘Right of Way’ album. He’s remixed Tiesto and Armin, amongst many others, and reworked Sonique’s ‘Feels So Good’ into a worldwide, No. 1 record.

Steve is now as well known as a DJ as he is a producer; having quickly risen through the ranks, captivating crowds the world over with his tough, cutting-edge sets. The Ministry, Gallery, PaSSion and Gatecrasher have all born witness to his fluid mixing, unique style and kinetic, energetic performances. His spinning career took off with such speed, in fact, that just 12 months after he first put needle to vinyl, he found himself invited to play at Paul van Dyk’s Birthday party! 2004 saw The Thrillseekers crack the DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJ's chart for the first time, before going on to break into the top 50 (landing at no. 45) in 2006.

The Thrillseekers story started back in 1999, where, with a relatively basic home studio Steve constructed the trance milestone that is ‘Synaesthesia’. Signed and released by Neo Records in 1999, at the height of the trance explosion, it has gone on to sell over 1,000,000 copies, across its numerous, repeated worldwide releases.

Following the collapse of Neo Records in 2003, Steve took charge of his catalogue by launching his own label Adjusted Music. With demand high for the re-releases of 'Synaesthesia' and ‘Affinity’ (which was originally came out under his Hydra moniker), both tracks were brought back out in 2004, to a huge response. As well as releasing his own records, Steve’s also sought out fresh talent for Adjusted. He signed the club hits ‘Safe to Dream’ by Russian act Evolve and ‘Alone Again’ by transatlantic duo Deep Voices. His remix of the former showcased a new housier sound, one which was fully realised with his ‘By Your Side’ release. The track was championed by Paul van Dyk and Pete Tong, being marked up, quite simply, as “Brilliant” by the latter, after he played it on Radio 1.

Artist collaborations have played an important part in Steve’s production career. Immediately following the success of ‘Synaesthesia’ Steve went on to launch a new moniker for M.O.S. subsidiary, Incentive. En-Motion was born with ‘Truth’ in 2000 and ‘Getting Away with It’ following in 2002. In the adjoining years he also pushed forward, partnering collaborations with Andy ‘Pulser’ Perring as Insigma (‘Insigma’/’Open Our Eyes’/’Avalon’) and with ATCR owner Tim Stark under the name Rapid Eye ('Never Going Back'/"Circa-Forever"/"Stealing Beauty"/'Santa Cruz'/'Absolut').

In late 2005 The Thrillseekers moved into compilation territory, with the release of ‘Night Music Vol 1’. The CD and 30 date world tour that followed it was an instant smash, mushrooming the fanbase further and generating State-side and Russian releases of the comp. Summer 2007 will sees the much-anticipated follow up hit the stores, again encompassed by a world tour.

In 2008 Martin Roth reacquainted the world with modern electronic trance soul, as his self-proclaimed NuStyle productions & distinctive DJ Sets took over control crossing generic boundaries.

"NuStyle" describes a combination of multiple influences throughout trance, Progressive, Tech & Electro - creating a fresh sound ideal for the Dancefloor & Radio / DJ Play across the barriers, with names such as Chicane, AvB & PvD or German Chart-Toppers Ich&Ich or Rosenstolz all personally requesting the MRRemix Treatment.

Record sales proved him right as his Remix for "sensation seekers" became #1 in 2008’s Beatport sales charts and Martin Roth was crowned alongside Eric Prydz & Deadmau5 "Star of 2008" as well as nominated more than any other Act in their ’08 awards receiving 3 nominations. No surprise with 5 different #1 selling tracks on the Portal and an incredible 16 Top 10 singles.

The musical background of the Frankfurt born classically trained piano professional originates from 80’s Wave heroes like Depeche Mode, having his first club culture experiences in the 90’s with Sven Väth and his label imprints EyeQ & Harthouse where he fell in love with electronic dance music.

In keeping with his obsessive love of music - spanning punk, industrial/new wave, pop, house and techno - Martin set out to push the musical boundaries and challenges the dance scene’s preconceptions by going back to his roots resulting in being constantly ahead of the game feeding underground as well as mainstream interest.

Moving to Berlin marked a decisive turning-point in his career. With LUNATIQUE records and the more underground based OMFG! Martin Roth founded an independent platform and trademark for his idea of Techno music. The labels’ basic concept allows him to explore musical depths and artistic freedom releasing not style oriented but simply modern and catchy EDM featuring exclusive artist releases in combination with his own work.

Ruby Skye in San Francisco, Ministry of Sound in London or Sydney’s HOME - with his characteristic strong DJ appearances on every continent Martin Roth astonishes the crowds with his skills and unpredictable open-minded track selection giving an insight what is next on the dancefloor.

His unique and distinctive style is one that’s got people talking, with events in over 25 countries a year a statement to his exploding worldwide popularity in turn helping him being en Vogue and feed him with extra inspiration as well. The Martin Roth debut artist album is about to be released in 2009...
