TIESTO
Tiësto is one of the world's most famous trance DJ figures in the electronic dance music scene. Although he has used many aliases in the past, he is best known for his work as DJ Tiësto. However, his latest productions have him dropping the "DJ" label and he is now known simply as "Tiësto".
Globally, Tiësto is best known for being the first DJ to play live at the opening ceremony of the Olympic games and voted "best DJ in the World" consecutive 3 times in a row by DJ magazine as well as his seminal production credits. Verwest will be permanently attached to his Tiësto alias, an Italian twist of his childhood nickname, and this acclaimed remix that brought him into the strata of world-renowned DJs. As of May 2006 Tiësto is the official worldwide ambassador for the Dance4Life foundation, fighting the spread of AIDS/HIV, for which he recorded the track dance4life.
Roger Sanchez
Just one in the cast of crucial producers that made Strictly Rhythm the premiere American house label during the early '90s, Roger Sanchez grew into a prolific remixer, world-class mainstream DJ and top global-house name by the end of the decade. Though he concentrated more on mix albums than proper studio productions under his own name, Sanchez gained much respect with club kids as well as the dancefloor intelligentsia.
Later Sanchez productions -- a 1994 Latin dub-house burner named "Sumba Lumba" (as Tribal Confusion), the following year's hard-hitting Livin 4 the Underground EP (as Roger S) and that same year's "Release Yo Self" (as Transatlantic Soul) -- cemented his status as one of Strictly Rhythm's greatest assets and one of the world's leading mainstream producers. Though his own One Records collapsed in 1995, Sanchez formed another label named Narcotic and signed up with the British club Hard Times to release his first full-length. The mix LP Hard Times-The Album featured the S-Man (with just two decks, a mixer and a crate of records) proving his worth as a DJ in addition to his much-hyped studio work. He continued in the mix-LP vein, releasing volumes in two high-profile series (Mixmag Live!, United DJ's of America) and the Freeze collection Roger S. Mega Mix. In 1997, Narcotic Records released "Back" (as S-Men), the fruits of the dance super-group formed by Sanchez, Junior Sanchez and DJ Sneak. One year later, Sanchez released S-Man Classics, a two-disc collection including his best remixes backed with his best own productions. A few mix albums followed during the next three years, but a full production album, First Contact, finally dropped in 2001.
MSTRKRFT
MSTRKRFT (pronounced "master kraft") are the Daft Punk-loving alter ego of Death from Above 1979's Jesse F. Keeler along with producer Al-P. Hailing from Toronto, the duo makes a move from DFA 1979's abrasive rock to robotic electronic complete with vocoders and handclaps. In addition to releasing two singles ("Easy Love" and "Work on You") and an LP in July 2006 on Last Gang Records, MSTRKRFT have remixed several buzz bands such as Metric, Wolfmother, the Kills, and Bloc Party.
Kaskade
Though he was born in Chicago, this DJ found his spiritual and musical home in San Francisco by way of Salt Lake City and New York. He is currently one of the most influential people in the San Francisco house scene, as well as one of the hardest-working: By night he's Kaskade the house music producer/DJ; by day he's Ryan Raddon, A&R director for OM Records. As a producer, Raddon has contributed to several OM compilations including Sounds of OM (Volume 3), which he both contributed tracks to and mixed, and Sound Design. Two standout tracks Raddon wrote, produced and released through OM are "Gonna Make It" and "What I Say". As an A&R man, he has helped kick-start the careers of many artists including much-touted twosome Ming & FS and beloved SF soul-house act Soulstice. OM's current roster also includes J Boogie, Afro Mystic and King Britt, among others.
In the early days, Kaskade familiarized himself with the rapidly changing electronic music scene wherever he went, eventually finding that house music was the subgenre he loved best. He started out as a DJ in New York and Salt Lake City clubs. During the tail end of his stay in Salt Lake City, his first attempts to produce tracks were released on his own tiny label Mechanized Records. He also sold a few tracks to Chris Smith, A&R director for an up-and-coming house label in San Francisco. Though no one could have predicted it, this ended up being the precursor to Raddon's most important career move thus far. When family matters initiated a move to San Francisco, Smith hired Raddon to assist him at the label -- which was, of course, OM. He has been there ever since. Kaskade/Raddon's latest efforts as a producer can be found on Om Lounge 6. From behind the A&R desk, he's helped to release Ming & FS's Subway Series as well as the latest volume of the acclaimed Mushroom Jazz series.
Z-Trip
Z-Trip is one of the biggest DJs of our time. Doing over 100 shows a year, every year, he is also known as the founding father of the mash-up movement. His early independent releases have become highly sought after collectibles. Uneasy Listening fetches as much as $500.00 on eBay.
No other DJ can claim playing to 500,000 people opening for the Rolling Stones at Sars-stock in Toronto, playing the Bonaroo main stage to over 70,000 people 2 years in a row, in addition to headlining a tent at Coachella twice. He's also been busy around the world doing the Good Vibrations Festival in Australia 2006, as a headliner. All of this in addition to his US and international headlining sold out shows, and multiple club residencies.
Z-Trip's major label debut "Shifting Gears" was given 4 stars by Rolling Stone—it's highest honor. The first single "Walking Dead" went Top 20 and featured Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. The album also had two Number 1s on the college chart. "Listen to the DJ" featuring Soup of Jurassic 5 and "Shock and Awe" featuring Chuck D. He's also a master of the remix, with a stand out re-working of The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" on "Motown Remixed".
Z-Trip can be seen in the movie "Scratch" (and "Scratch Live") alongside Q-Bert, Mix Master Mike and originators of the art form like Afrika Bambaataa and Jazzy Jay. In addition, he's appeared in "Brainfreeze" and "Product Placement", two live concert movies, both of which feature friends DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist.
Robbie Rivera
Robbie's talent is recognized across the music industry and he is the first port of call for many an artist wanting the Rivera sound on their releases. Throughout the years, Robbie has been commissioned as a remixer by a wide range of international artists such as Faithless, Felix Da Housecat, Funky Green Dogs, Moloko, Sonique, RES, Sinead O'Connor, Victoria Beckham, Madonna, Ricky Martin, Santana, Harry Romero, Puretone, Kylie Minogue, Carlos Vives, Pink and Brandy, to name but a few.
With his heart in his Miami based studio, Robbie began his own label "Juicy Music" which is distributed by Unique in London. Through Juicy, Robbie reflects his individual style and traits to form the sound of Juicy, whilst also giving him the opportunity to work with many of his friends and successful collaborators. A pounding, sexy house feel with a love of melodies and vocals. His label has featured superstar producers like: Superchumbo, Antoine Clamaran, DJ Flex, Palash, DJ Rooster & Sammy Peralta, Willie Morales, Oscar G, Todd Terry, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso & Stonebridge.
The success of Juicy has taken Robbie to producing his very own album "Do You Want More" for Ultra Records and Independance in France.". The first single "Which Way You Going" reached the number one position earlier this year at Billboard Magazine and it will be re-released this summer via the UK label Toolroom. This year Robbie starts his Juicy Mix compilation series with its first release JUICY MUSIC ONE which will be distributed by the US power label Star 69. Keeping himself even busier, in February 2005 Robbie will be launching his two new branch labels 24seven and Juicy Tracks to please all Djs alike.
Rivera's studio work is mostly inspired by the gigs he plays around the world. The demand for Robbie as a DJ comes from the likes of Ibiza, Barcelona, London, Greece, France, Italy, Moscow, Budapest, Berlin, Amsterdam, Dublin, Canada, New York, Miami, and Latin America.
LA Riots
These kids have been taking over not only the L.A. music scene, but have been sweeping across the blog nation. They've already done hit remixes for Ocelot, Hatiras (who are on DJ Dan's INSTEREO label), and Le Castle Vania, among many others. We expect big things to come from these gents as their tracks trickle in and take over dance floors across the world
