Sporting the long hair and scruffy beards of their musical forefathers, The Sheepdogs create old school rock and roll that moves and grooves. Taking their cues from the Allman Brothers, Creedence, Humble Pie and the Stones, these prairie boys have a sound that is completely faithful to their 70s rock roots, while remaining thoroughly original and fresh. Powerful vocals, a twin guitar attack, stacked harmonies, moody keys and steady grooves all blend together to form an engaging batch of originals. After securing the reputation as the most exciting band to see in their hometown of Saskatoon (and being voted favourite local band by the readers of Planet S magazine), The Sheepdogs have taken their show on the road, playing over 100 shows in the last year across Canada. They have opened for Matt Mays, the Arkells and Tricky Woo, and have played at Junofest, the Western Canadian Music Awards, and the Red Gorilla festival in Austin, TX. They independently released two full-length albums "Trying to Grow" and "The Sheepdog's Big Stand". Both albums have charted on !earshots national monthly top 200 chart, with "The Sheepdog's Big Stand" also charting on college radio stations across the US. With no intentions of letting up, the next 6 months see The Sheepdogs heading back into the studio to record more material, then heading back on the road to tour across Canada and beyond.
The Grass
We were just friends who liked to jam. Anthony and Dan asked Mark to come and jam, and the seeds were sown, that was, 2002? Around 2003, Harmonica Joe came on the scene, new to town. Mark told the boys he knew a harmonica player who would sound great with us, thus the first and only incarnation of The Grass Band was created. With a single hack of the blade, a new, organic, drought-tolerant Kentucky Blue Fescue came from the soil and deposited its loins upon the earth known as Humboldt County, California - from where great things come. Sharing a love for music, the four have forged a journey on creative expression through the power of sonic energy. Watch out, Humboldt County, The Grass Band is going to grow on you..
