The Slackers Brooklyn's ska/reggae kings return to Vancouver to do an all ages show (with licensed beverage garden) at the Korean Hall. This will be the first all ages show since their epic appearance at The Rickshaw Theatre in 2009. The Slackers have become a ska/reggae institution throughout the world and in the 13 years that they've been coming to Vancouver, the ska/reggae massive always is happy to greet them with open arms. No matter what age you are you can come and enjoy this long-awaited all ages extravaganza.
Joining them will be Vancouver's Heads Hang Heavy and Ivy League Brawlers!
Heads Hang Heavy
Brought together by a love for all things that make people move, Heads Hang Heavy is a collective of diverse musicians who share the common goal of making dance floors sweat. Combining the roots of Reggae, the meatiness of the Blues, and a splash of Ska - HHH complete their west coast blend with original music and tasty vocals that stir your thoughts and warm the soul. Like any fine recipe the proof is in the tasting, and currently their special brew is available live and uncut at your local live music venue.
Dig in!”
While their sound is strongly rooted in Jamaican musical styles such as Reggae, Ska and Dancehall, Heads Hang Heavy also draw ideas from other forms of dance music including Disco, Hip-hop, Funk and Rock. With musical tastes that are wide and far-reaching, their collective goal has always been to bring these divergent styles together under the banner of strong song-writing and infectious musical performances. HHH strive to bring an intelligent and conscious positivity to their lyrics while expressing the unique west coast culture of British Columbia.
Heads Hang Heavy can often be found performing on the streets of Vancouver forming impromptu dance parties wherever they go. After playing street corners during the 2011 Stanley Cup playoff series, the band was invited to take part in the Make Music Vancouver Festival, the City In Motion Festival, and the Mount Pleasant Harvest Festival. In addition to these street performances, they continue to pack live music venues such as The Venue, The Media Club, The Backstage Lounge, and The Shark Club - and they have shared the stage with many talented musicians including Randy Ponzio, Shane Philip, Los Furios, Kutapira, Watasun, and Giraffe Aftermath.
In November of 2011 Heads Hang Heavy released a 5 song CD which they are putting into the hands of loyal fans, local radio stations, and music industry professionals. The music can also be found online as part of their electronic press kit at www.headshangheavy.com.
Over the next year the band plans to continue playing street parties and live music venues, while undertaking a full length recording project. They are applying to all music festivals across British Columbia and hope to quickly expand their touring circuit, with the goal of building the fan base and reputation required to open doors south of the border and across the Rockies.
