Gun Outfit
Milk Music sound like they crawled off a mid-1980s SST cassette comp. Unlike the bands most associated with that classic punk label, though, there's a distinct mid-1990s lo-fi Pacific-Northwest vibe to their unwinding guitar solos and vocal howls. The Olympia quartet of 24-year-old singer/guitarist Alex Coxen, his brother Joe Rutter (30) on drums, bassist Dave Harris (32), and guitarist Charles Warring (27), have a knack for slacker anthems wrapped in a vintage analog haze. Washington State and its history are clearly essential to Milk Music. "We're off the beaten path," they proudly state of their music. They have announced their debut full-length, Cruise Your Illusion, is out April 2 via Fat Possum on CD and digital formats. (The vinyl edition will be self-released.)
Gun Outfit is an amazing new band from Olympia Washington. Three-piece rippers that take you back to a time when riffs were weird and hooks were awesome. Honing in on influences from past greats like Meat Puppets and Dinosaur Jr, Gun Outfit create their own sound that is equal parts melody, jangle, punk and pop. Gun Outfit are part of an inspiring music world that includes other great northwest bands like Ses Vid and Sisters. On their debut 7" they inspire and twist a sound through three very different songs that stick together in a way, that seems to only makes sense to them. But it works! Gun Outfit prevails, they sound like the new sound you wish you had as a teenager. Like a dream you were waiting for. Like a brand new 45 you were wishing for all month, it finally came in the mail, and it is better than you could ever think. They are very nice humans as well.
