“Either you’re born with it or you’re not!” This statement truly applies to singer, songwriter and musician Claire Stevens. Born in December of 2002 Claire was one of those children who talked before she walked and always gravitated towards music. Family photos show a toddler sitting behind a drum kit on her dad’s lap tapping to the rhythm of U2’s “Beautiful Day” and playing her little pink guitar and singing with her mom.
When she was five Claire started asking for piano lessons so her parents bought her a keyboard and when she was seven she took her first lesson. To say that music flows through her is an understatement. Music teachers have been quoted as saying, “She has crazy good rhythm and she’s only seven!” and “She’s writing songs and playing like this at eight, I can’t imagine what she’ll be doing when she hits double digits.”
For someone so young she has a true respect and appreciation for music. She draws inspiration from artists like Gwen Stefani and Colbie Caillat who in her own words, “Are authentic.” To watch Claire in the studio is to see someone well beyond her years as she politely tells a producer, “I can do my own harmonies and I will only put down on a track what I can sing live.”
As much as Claire enjoys writing and recording in the studio, she also enjoys performing and has played at the House Of Blues in Dallas, House Of Blues in Hollywood on the Sunset Strip, Opening Bell, the Hard Rock Cafe and the Loft at the Palladium Ballroom. She has also appeared on WFAA-ABC Daybreak and Good Morning Texas!
