Rashondra Angelle has been singing since the age of nine and instantly took to being a performer. "I just started singing one day and it sounded good to me, I actually thought everyone could sing at that age." Like many young frican-American ladies with the gift of song, Angelle got her start in the church.Angelle had a wide variety of influences growing up such as Janet Jackson, Sade, Snoop Dogg and Nirvana. She cites Common, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu as current favorites.Angelle was born and raised in Long Beach, CA and attended San Diego State University, where she received her B.A. degree in English. She recently completed her M.A. in English and teaches 10th grade English.One of Angelle’s biggest accomplishments to date is performing at the world famous Apollo Theatre in the Amateur Night showcase.
During her last year of undergraduate, Angelle increased her performances and became more comfortable on stage. "In my last year of school, I became a lot more confident, recorded a couple of songs and really felt like there was something to what I had." Angelle’s music can be best described as Neo-Soul, infused with jazz, Hip-Hop and R&B. "At my essence, my music is straight soul," states Angelle.The soulful singer feels that music is in an interesting place stating, "I think that people are really in a creative space. I think they are realizing their creative power.”In 2010 Angelle was compelled to complete a mixtape entitled “Glow,” to promote self- confidence, unity and love. Angelle has performed in music festivals in Atlanta, Virginia, Baltimore and D.C. She has also done radio tours and has been featured in countless blogs, ensuring that her message and gift reaches a broad audience.Although she has made her presence felt in other parts of the country, it is in Los Angeles that Angelle has really made her mark, performing in such well known venues as House of Blues, Knitting Factory, Keyclub and the historical nightclub, The Mint.As with any great artist, this songstress has collaborated with many industry professionals such as underground hip hop legends Planet Asia and Tri-State and notable hip hop producer Daeone. In addition, Ms. Angelle has opened for alternative soul and independent soul artists Res and Sy Smith.As long as there is music, there will be a voice for those to uplift, teach and bring positive energy to those that seek it. Rashondra Angelle will continue to be front and center in this medium.
