Alright kids, it's time to come get Spotted again. This time around, we feature 3 of BC's best: Thom Banks, Abasi, and Patrick Kelly!
? Thom Banks ? (Victoria)
Thom Banks has been a staple in the dance music community in the City of Gardens since the late 90's. His blend of house music ranges from jackin' house to minimal tech house to deep house to straight-up house music. Thom has earned himself many residencies over the years and has been invited to play at the best festivals, parties and clubs on the West Coast, including the Kulth Music Festival, Tall Tree Music Festival and of course, Soundwave, west coast Canada's fabled electronic music festival.
His tight mixing, unparalleled track selection and keen ability in interpreting his crowd on the dance floor has allowed him to play alongside names such as Mathew Jonson, Dave Seaman, Mark Farina, Lawnchair Generals, The Mole, Bassnectar and Eddie C, just to name a few. Often considered a DJ's favourite DJ, Thom tends to lay down beats that are deep and techy - his timing's right and his beats are tight.
? Abasi ?
Having discovered and fallen in love with electronic music in 1991, Abasi started collecting and making mixed electronica tapes. Today, his record collection has grown beyond control, and includes a healthy mix of all genres of music. DJ Abasi owns/spins many different styles, but he currently specializes in techno/minimal, electro*, dancerock, italo/nu disco, house and mash-up/eclectic. Abasi and the Intimate crew have organized many legendary parties and club nights around town. Currently he helps organize and is a resident DJ @ SiGNAL Saturdays and Lotus Long Weekend. He has played locally at almost all Vancouver clubs as well as in the UK. His past residencies include Cheeky, Luscious, Shaken Not Stirred and Big Trouble. DJ Abasi is also a part of the Team Trainwreck trio along with Dr. Jones and Glyn.
He has played alongside such international artists as Moby, Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Swayzak, Matthew Dear/Audion, Fischerspooner, Akufen, Jesse Rose, Kevin Saunderson, Hardfloor, Derek Carter, Marshall Jefferson, Llorca, Claude Von Stroke, Dirt Crew, Chopstick, Guns’n'Bombs, and Adam Freeland among numerous others. He has also played alongside/opened for almost all of the local Vancouver DJs.
? Patrick Kelly ?
A fixture in the electronic music scene in Vancouver for over 15 years, Patrick been there from the beginning, having played at some of the now legendary nights at the Lotus, Sonar, Graceland, and Lucy Mae Browns, to name a few. Patrick Kelly is also one of the founding members of the Festivus music festival, which returned this year as one of the highlights of the summer festivals. Known for his off the cuff sets, and ranging tastes, he always leaves the crowd guessing whats going to come next. This man wears his heart for music on his sleeve.
