DJ Dera, aka Jason Madeira, was born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts; a highly populated city located south of Boston. Dera was raised with an extensive musical background. His father was a keyboardist in a Portuguese band, and then transitioned into djing, and Dera found himself being involved by helping with the events, practicing different instruments with the band, and spending time learning different instruments throughout his life. During his childhood years, Dera received numerous awards for his talent and contribution to numerous local bands & groups.
At the age of 16, Dera decided to pursue his own career in music. In 2007, after many sleepless nights practicing the art of djing in his bedroom, Dera got his first nightclub gig in Boston, MA. After a very successful night, Dera was offered a residency on Friday nights, in which he remained a resident for a year.
In 2009, Dera was called to fill in for a DJ that couldn't attend an event at one of Providence's busiest venues at the time; "The Prov". Again, after taking on the gig, he was later offered a Saturday night residency, in which he remained until the venue closed down. Immediately after the closing of the venue, an owner of a local venue had heard about what had happened, and asked if Dera would be interested in joining his team by working Saturday nights. Since then, Dera is still the Saturday resident at this venue, called "Pearl".After transitioning into the Providence scene, Dera attempted to get back in the city of Boston performing to the large crowds in Massachusetts. In 2010, Dera caught a break and was offered a Friday residency at his personal favorite venue in Boston; "The Gypsy Bar".
Currently, Dera performs on a weekly basis to three of his residencies; Roxy Nightclub (providence, ri), The Gypsy Bar (boston, ma), and Pearl (providence, ri)."There are many DJ's looking for opportunity, and best of luck to them. I'm always here to help anyone out in any way possible. I am very grateful for the opportunities that have come my way, and most importantly thankful for everyone supporting me on what I love to do most. My life has been dedicated to music. I want to keep it that way. The best feeling in the world, is when I look down at the crowd, and everyone is having the time of their life. That's my job, and i love every minute of it!" - Dera
