The Little Black Dress sexy, cool, and your reliable 'go-to'. Don't mistake these characteristics as ones to describe a garment of clothing, but rather to describe Toronto's explosive five piece pop rock band. Dan, Brian, Damian, Kyle, and Lewis have serendipity to thank for bringing them together in 2009. These five grew up with music running through their blood, having each played a bevy of roles in various creative musical projects throughout their lives. When Dan, the band's lead vocalist and premier songwriter, announced that he was looking to put a new band together, it was with a recommendation or a quick introduction that these five met and naturally clicked. Their distinct sound began to emerge as early as their first jam session, which soon
led to the birth of The Little Black Dress.
So, how did they go from being five acquaintances to a band of brothers playing sold out shows? They created an infectious sound that perfectly blends the rock and pop that they grew up on in the 90's. Starting off in Toronto's local music hotspots such as the Rivoli and Horseshoe Tavern, it was their energy on stage along with their irresistible tunes that got people rushing in to join the dance party, turning them into instant fans. "Our music is exciting, so at shows, we want our audience to dance, to jump, to bob their heads up and down, to tap their feet, to consider, to reflect, to relax, to enjoy" explains Dan. It seems as though Toronto's ears have done just that.
With a dedicated fan base, the self-proclaimed 'LBD Army', The Little Black Dress has had the opportunity to perform all around Ontario and Quebec, playing every big and little city in spanning from London to Montreal. The success of their two EP's ('Strut' and self titled 'The Little Black Dress') has landed their songs in national television shows such as HBO's The Right Hand. Their hit single, "Call the Paparazzi" was also chosen to be the theme song for all applicants who apply for Ontario's Smart Serve test, a mandatory exam for anyone in the food/drink industry. The boys have grown to become festival sweethearts, rocking numerous stages over a number of years at CMW, NxNE, S.C.E.N.E fest, KOI fest, and Open Roof Film Festival.
