DJ Munkey hails from Tucson, Arizona and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was first inspired by music at the age of five when he accompanied his father, a talented radio personality and disc jockey, to work. Throughout the years, he would sit and observe intently as he watched his father worked in the studio. His fondest memories were watching and imitating his father’s live broadcasts, observing the process of splicing reel-to-reel 8-track tapes as well as auditioning and categorizing new vinyl releases. Munkey started his career at the young age of 13, when his father took a short bathroom break while spinning a party, astonished to return to his DJ equipment to find his son mixing to an ecstatic crowd. That was the night that DJ Munkey was born.
News of the young talent traveled fast throughout Tucson and his performance schedule grew busier everyday. By the age of 16 years, he assisted with the wiring of a multi-million dollar broadcast studio and landed an on air shift at Arizona Lotus Broadcasting. DJ Munkey became a rising star and one of the most popular DJ’s in Arizona by the age of 18. With an unstoppable mixture of innate talent, hard work, and pure passion for music, he quickly landed residencies at bigger venue (University of Arizona campus and some of the most popular clubs in Tucson; Level, Pearl, Sharks, Sports, Evolution, City Limits, The Maverick). In addition, Munkey has worked with some of Arizona’s most renown DJ’s (DJ 2Phat Pat, DJ Shorty, Andy B. Londen, DJ Kaoss) and radio stations such as 92.1 KFMA, 98.3 KHOT, 93.7 KKRQ, 96.1 KLPX. He mixed for both The Velocity Tour and The 92.1 KFMA Fall Ball and has opened up for well-known artists (Baby Bash, Social Distortion, The Used and Lost Prophets). By the age of 19, he had accomplished every professional goal set for himself in Tucson and it was time for “bigger and better” things.
