The EEC has potential but it fails on one of the most important fronts for a nightclub: guaranteeing good sound quality. I saw Armin at the EEC in April 2007 and the show was awesome: Armin played 3 hours of glorious trance, the 2nd floor was open (thus relieving overpopulation pressure on the dance floor), and the sound quality was fine. However, since seeing ATB (my favourite electronic artist) at the EEC in September 2007, I vowed to never return there. I had extremely high hopes for the ATB show, as I am a massive fan of his genius, but the EEC blew it for me: the 2nd floor was not open, leading to overcrowding and little room to dance on the dance floor, and, worst of all, the sound quality was the pits. I went with a large group of friends and we all noticed the same disastrous problem: few of ATB's soaring treble notes and melodies emerged from the morass of excessive bass. The treble-bass imbalance was so bad that it was often difficult to tell which song ATB was playing. My brother experimented with repositioning himself and found that at the extreme edge of the dance floor (way off to the side), the sound balance was better and he could hear some of the melody, so he guessed that the treble speakers were pointing out to the sides and not oriented to cover the floor evenly (nor were they nearly powerful enough relative to the bass). The wretched sound quality turned what should have been a highlight of my concert-going life in to a memorable disappointment. We were all astounded at the failure of the EEC sound staff and vowed to never waste our money there again... The problem is, they do host good shows (i.e., Armin) when the sound system's working!
