Sonar has been a local favorite for quite some time. It is a little over-rated actually. The venue is not that hot, although it has been added to recently making it a little larger and visually interesting with pull-down screen. The dancers were a little obscure, everything from strange hair to robot moves. The drink prices are average, but not great and the bartenders - well, it depends who I had. Some were very good and friendly, others lacking in manners. Sonar has a variety of talent ranging from local talent and residents to world-known DJs and Producers. Some really great parties have been thrown there and I have enjoyed many nights at Sonar. It is NOT my favorite dance spot due to its early closing time of 2:00 am and the lack of smiles on the staff. Everyone seemed to have a chip on their shoulder - from the door to the bar, the owner/manager and the bouncers. No one is made to feel important, so I guess it is a great place to just "disappear" in the crowd if that is what you are looking for. Great place to dance and hang with friends, hear great music, and check out some local favorites -- just don't talk to any of the staff unless you throw them a 20.
