 The Pit Pub Description
The Pit Pub was the very first entry into what has now become the A.M.S.' Food & Beverage Department. Built in 1973, four years after the Student Union Building opened, the Pit has been the hub of campus social life for almost three decades. 1992 saw a fairly extensive renovation with a new sound system, bar and dance floor, up-graded lighting and wheel chair access. Wednesday's are the traditional pub night and the line ups have been known to start as early as 4:00pm! When you just want to hang, there are three pool tables, two big screens and seven TV's located around the bar. Extremely competative pricing keeps students coming back. Tuesday's are Wing nights. At 25 cents and your choice of sauce, you can't go wrong.... You can't say you've been to UBC until you've been to the Pit!

I'm a frequent patron of the burger window and must say that on most days/nights, The Pit is excellent (they have really good chicken) and very affordable. On wednesday nights however, they seem to have hired the biggest a**holes they could find to bounce. If you don't have good timing/get there early, you can get stuck in the lineup for hours (literally!) where the pre-gamed students aren't the kindest. Once you finally get to the door, the bouncers are rude and seem to enjoy splitting up groups of friends (even 3-4 people), making one or two people wait for the next trickle of people (10-20 minute intervals). The timing is arbitrary–I was watching and it wasn't to conform to fire regulations. More people left than were let in. Once you're in, it's pretty good. The bar's good and they set up an extra station to cut down on drink lines. In my opinion, people aren't as outgoing here as they are at other clubs but it's a blast when you're there with people!
