 Velvet Underground Description
The Velvet Underground is Toronto's choice for Alternative Rock in an intimate environment. This eclectic spot has presented a vast and diverse array of events, everything from showcasing Canadian bands such as Junkhouse and Crawl to the completely; outrageous Genitorture fashion show. This unique venue was a host to the CD release Party of Jagged Little Pill which launched Alanis Morrisette's career. Go for the '80s Goth and Retro music, or simply lounge on the sofas with your friends. Relax with a game of pool if you quite feel like dancing. Catering to a wide range of alternative types, from nouveau goths to university preps, the Velvet Underground is a nice change from the ordinary. The ultracool decor includes sculptures of angels created from found metal that add to the lush unique atmosphere.

I don't mind Velvet Underground for what it is...a dingy rock club. I've only been there twice, had a great time ~ but both times I've had an issue with their coat check. FIRST TIME - My boyfriend kindly checked my jacket for me, paid for it and held on to the stub. At the end of the evening, he went to get my jacket and they wouldn't give it to him. On top of it, they called all of their bouncers down to inspect the situation. There was no issue here. He had the stub, and checked the jacket himself. About 20 stressful minutes later, they gave him the jacket and we were on our way. SECOND TIME - This time my boyfriend checked his own jacket. At the end of the night he went to get it, and was told "Oh...we gave that jacket away". Could you imagine?? Apparently, one of the regulars NEEDED a jacket and one of the bouncers insisted that she take HIS winter jacket. On top of it, he had the keys to his apartment amongst other things in his pockets. All they could do was offer him free drinks in exchange for what they had done. There is NO excuse for this!! SO - Moral of the story! If you are going to visit this ding bar - don't trust their coat check!
