This place has a warm, cosy vibe that makes you think of an old-style beatnik cafe of the '60s.
The place is wall to wall with comfortable, fat armchairs and couches, and some tables and chairs. Local artists bring their artwork in and the place is filled with colourful originals.
The menu is limited to finger food - mini pizza, toasted bagels, home-made butter tarts, pop, and expresso (and beer, etc.). Alcohol is served from the bar and in the front part of the place.
The back section has the staqge and Piano and sound and lighting equipment, and is a constant buzz, with musicians dropping by to play and a lot of good natured banter.
Beyond the stage are the washrooms. these deserve a special mention because it is so unusual not to have washrooms burined in the basement, among the heating pipes and near the broom closet. the Moonshine washrooms are clean and airy and functional!
The sweet little girl that serves has a smile that lights up the whole room.
Owner/manager/bouncer John Marlatt is a real nice guy and a talented musician too.
If you just want to go and hang someplace and have a few drinks and a snack in a very pleasant atmosphere, for reasonable prices, this is great. The bonus is the steady stream of talented musicians that will be performing, no matter when you drop in.
The place is very close to the Lakeshore and the heart of old Oakville.
