The Shanghai was Ottawa's first Chinese restaurant in what is now known as Little Chinatown. Founded in 1971, many changes have occurred over the years. Originally an old grocery store, it took a lot of hard work to transform the space into that 70s Asian eatery.
With a new generation involved, the interior has undergone a drastic makeover but some things still remain. The chairs are vintage 70s. The original red padded bar is now the new work station. With Ottawa's population growing, the Shanghai continues to serve their patrons with delicious Chinese food, these days with a twist of Thai, Szechuan, and Cantonese using ingredients from Japan & Vietnam. The Shanghai has enjoyed many years in business and has seen many changes. Thank you to everyone. We hope to see you for years to come.
