Nightclub: Club Plastik
Dress code: No head gear allowed for men.
Capacity: 510
Demographic: Upscale crowd ranging in age from 21 to 35.
Decor: Designer Paolo Vieira was inspired by visits to upscale clubs in Lisbon, Miami and Las Vegas. The club's showpiece is Vieira's 7.6-by-2.4-metre wall of light. Lighting and sound design is monitored by Solotech.
The sound system has been calibrated so that people standing at the bar can speak and be heard. The sound on the dance floor is conducive to moving, not chatting.
Plasma-screen monitors placed throughout the club play mixed-video (like a DJ mixing songs, except done with video images).
Ambience: "I've been working in the nightclub business for 15 years, and I've never seen anything like Plastik," general manager Joe Zana said.
"The sound and light design is amazing. And if you want to see beautiful people, this is the place to come."
Metal detectors and the services of a security service keep things safe. Patrons are frisked at the door. "The women can feel safe because our security service and the staff keep a close eye on things," Zana said.
Music: A mix of house, R&B, hip-hop and Top 40.
Drinks: Fully stocked bar. "You can drink champagne or sip on a beer," Zana said.
Special nights: Thursday night tends to cater to the university and CEGEP crowd.
Why go: High-tech light and sound show. Beautiful people. Ten minutes from downtown via the Champlain Bridge. Huge parking lot and parking is free.
