 Lion's Head Tavern Description
After opening its doors to the trade in January 1971, the Lion's Head Tavern quickly established itself as a leading food and beverage emporium in Halifax. It became well known throughout Halifax for good food and good times. The Lion's Head has been a leader in its community as the first licensed establishment to be built in the North End business center and the first licensed tavern to cater to both male and female customers after the change in licensing legislation in the 1970s.

As well as its robust food business the Lion's Head became very active in supporting amateur athletes and sports teams. Through its sponsorship of softball, hockey, baseball and other local sports the Lion's Head became the focal point for recreational activities for men and women in the north end of Halifax.

Many of the Lion's Head present customers still remember when Larry Robinson and Yvonne Lambert would drop into the Lion's Head for a steak when they played for the old Halifax Voyageurs before going on to star for the Montreal Canadians. Today the Lion's Head caters to a broad spectrum of regulars including business men and women, military personal, sport enthusiasts, and many who like a friendly place to hang out.

In addition to its rich history the Lion's Head has kept up with the times. It has reinvented itself on three occasions with extensive renovations as well as expanded building facilities on twice since opening. The present day tavern is barely recognizable from the building found on opening day in 1971.

The Lion's Head is a major venue for banquets, group gatherings, and parties of all types and sizes. It's large capacity and unique design afford an opportunity to hold both larger and smaller functions from 12 to 200 people.

If you are involved in planning a party or get together (small, medium, or large) call the Lion's Head at 455-0181 for reservations. Group functions can easily be arranged using our regular menu or by selecting from our group menus designed especially for such events.

I think I must have slept with the manager/bartender's wife in a former life, because everytime I go there he's in a pissed off mood and gives the most horrible service. He treats you like you're stupid, ignores requests for things like (oh my gosh) a glass for your beer...even when asked twice nicely). The only saving grace is that their Karaoke is probably the best in the city (kudos Laurie)
