With a completely deconstructed piano greeting guests – all parts painted matte black and placed artfully against a wall - its clear from the beginning that Killjoy is not the average charcuterie and wine bar. Large original fetishist prints adorn the raw concrete walls; arcane neon-accented installations light the back area; chefs customize meat and cheese offerings from favoured local suppliers, shoulder to shoulder with bartenders serving wine both on tap and from a carefully chosen bottle selection. If Killjoy is wine and fine meats first, you’d never know by checking the cocktail list, a collection of perfect classic and original gin-forward works.
Custom lights from Chromoly float above a staircase leading down to a small, low-ceilinged nightclub space glowing dimly with exposed bulb fixtures, lighting cinderblock brick and glassed-in walls that are over 100 years old. The rough warehouse feel of the room is barely offset by the minimalist modern furnishings and contemporary tunes pumping out of the DJ booth.
