In late 1988, Heights Guitar owner Jim Mendenhall (Dr. Zoomac) purchased the former Leola's Steakhouse from Leola Frankel of Frankel's Costume Company to establish a live music venue. The funky guitar painted on the building front, and a 7 foot high photo of Mick & Keith in the entry (Glimmer Twins circa 1970), announce Dan's is about music, specifically Rock. Rock in all it's forms- blues, Texas, punk, Southern, performance, rock n' roll, funk, country, folk, art, rockabilly, roots, indie, alternative and more. We feature other musical genres also- jazz, R & B, storytelling, Delta blues, ska, soul and some that defy description, as long as it is "Live and Original". The oldest blues jam in Houston started at Dan's in December, 1988 and has had as guests Tab Benoit, Greg Allman, Billy Gibbons, and Richard Geer.
