A Long-Time and Honoured Resident
Remember the good old days? They do at Nelson’s Bar & Grill. One of the longest standing pubs in the city of Calgary, Nelson’s has pretty much become a landmark in its own right. Originally called the Lord Nelson, the name was changed a few years back, but the concept has remained the same. As its surrounding competition has come and gone, though, Nelson’s has been going strong since first opening their doors way back in 1976. It is not the fanciest place downtown, nor is it the most modern, but it is a quality neighbourhood pub where the regulars swarm every night of the week, where the food is well-prepared and reasonably priced and the atmosphere always friendly and pretention-free.
Fare and Fun
Nelson’s serves up all of your traditional pub grub including nachos, burgers and pizza. They have a number of sandwiches, wraps and soups on the menu as well and every day they post a different special. Eating here will not break the bank either, costing, for the most part, under $10. Try your luck with the change at their bank of VLTs. Nelson’s has a good selection of beer on tap and a small wine list. If you need somewhere to host a casual get together, Nelson’s can also host a cocktail reception for up to 228 of your favourite people, or a sit down dinner for 100.
