One of the most famous features of the Times Square New Year’s Eve Celebration, second to only the midnight ball drop, is the The Wishing Wall and the ton of confetti thrown over the crowds as the Times Square clock strikes midnight on January 1st.
What’s all the flutter about?
The Wishing Wall is unreal! Here’s how it works:
- You (along with millions of other people around the world) write wishes for the New Year on pieces of official Times Square New Year’s Eve confetti.
- All the wishes are then posted on the New Year’s Eve Wishing Wall in the Times Square Museum & Visitor Center. The center is open seven days a week from 8am – 8pm, so you get to see your wish in lights before the big countdown.
- At the end of the year, all the wishes are added to the one ton of confetti that floats down over your head at midnight in Times Square and you are showered in the hopes, dreams and aspirations of millions of people from all over the world. What a beautiful concept!
Wish on the Wall from wherever you are!
You don’t have to be in New York to make your confetti wish for New Year. The Wishing Wall is available online and you can submit your New Year’s dreams at any time. Your personal hope will be lovingly printed onto a piece of Times Square confetti, posted on the Wishing Wall and then thrown over the crowds in Times Square at midnight. If nothing else, you can be in New York City during New Year’s in spirit!
